Santa Claus keeps a naughty and nice list to determine who does and doesn’t get a present each Christmas. If that’s the case, then what Santa gives is not really a gift, it’s a wage. It’s a payoff for good behavior. That’s the way most of life works. We end up getting what we deserve. The Bible says the wages of sin is death. If God gives us what we deserve, we’re all in trouble. However, the same verse that tells us that the wages of sin is death tells us that the free gift of God is eternal life. We all know what we’ve earned and consequently deserve, but to those who receive God’s freely-offered gift He promises new life now and forever.
